The wait is over...

We are officially headed to Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Phil will start pathology residency there July 1st. We are planning to move the first part of June. Bye bye sun and warm, happy weather! We will miss you! :) Even though I hate the cold and the snow, there are so many great and positive things about Sioux Falls. Phil and I really feel like this is where we should be and we know it'll be a great place for our family for the next 4-5 years. I'm excited for Phil to be able to work at this hospital because he was so impressed with it when he went for his interview and it really sounds like it's going to be a great place for him! The kids and I will find ways to enjoy ourselves inside for 8 months of the year when it's too cold and snowy to go out! Just kidding (but not)! :)

The plan is that Phil will do 4 years of residency followed by 1 year of a fellowship. The fellowship year is a year focused on a specific specialty related to pathology. Sioux Falls currently doesn't offer any fellowship programs, but they said they are working on getting some in the next few years. So that means if they do get the fellowship programs in place, it's likely that we'll stay there for our 5th year. If they don't, then we'll be moving somewhere else for the 5th year before Phil finds a job and settles down. I am so impressed with Phil's ability to keep going through all this! I did fine going to school when I was younger and just out of high school. But in my old age of 30 (haha), I'm getting burned out in just 1 1/2 semesters! :) Phil has gone to 5 years of undergrad, 4 years of medical, and still 5 more years to go! What a trooper!

One thing that is going to be hard for us is not being able to see all of our sweet families as often. I can't imagine any of mine and Phil's siblings wanting to vacation in Sioux Falls :), but just know that the invitation is always open! We love our families and truly are grateful for all of the support they give us. We have wonderful parents who do all that they can to come visit us as often as they can and we really want them to know how much we and the kids appreciate that. It's not cheap and it's not easy leaving their responsibilites to come, but we love it when they do and we love the memories we'll have with them forever!

So for the next 2 months we will take in all of the sunshine and warmth we can! We really have loved it here and will miss it, but we look forward to the next chapter in our life!

How exciting! This whole process of being married to a medical student is crazy. I know exactly how you feel...I just wish we were as far along as your family. I forgot Phil was interested in Pathology. Chad is interested in that too. Is the residency a DO or MD program? Did he participate in the match? I should get Phil's email so Chad and him can chat. It sounds like they have so much in common! Also, good luck on the move (especially while pregnant). You are brave! When we moved to Florida I was 7 months pregnant, so I totally understand. Anyway, Congratulations!!!

How wonderful! We're so happy for you two to finally move on to that step. Just that much closer... Hey! Sioux Falls is about 3.5 hours from Lincoln! We'll have to meet in the middle for the best playdate EVER. :) We love you guys!
